Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak berkata Umno akan menjadi lebih terbuka, demokratik dan inklusif pada pemilihan anggota Majlis Tertinggi (MT) parti itu Oktober ini.
Najib yang juga Presiden Umno berkata ini kerana pemilihan itu akan dijalankan berdasarkan kepada perlembagaan parti yang baru.
"Pemilihan ahli Majlis Tertinggi Umno yang berdasarkan perlembagaan baru parti, insya-Allah, bakal menjadikan Umno lebih terbuka, demokratik dan inklusif," katanya di laman Facebooknya hari ini.
Pada mesyuarat MT semalam, Najib mengumumkan tarikh pemilihan jawatan MT Umno akan diadakan serentak dengan mesyuarat perwakilan bahagian pada 5 Okt ini.
Pindaan perlembagaan Umno yang diluluskan pada 2009 antara lain meningkatkan jumlah perwakilan untuk pemilihan jawatan tertinggi parti dan jawatan peringkat bahagian, selain menghapuskan sistem kuota dalam pemilihan parti.
Lebih 150,000 perwakilan Umno daripada 191 bahagian di seluruh negara akan membuat pemilihan pucuk pimpinan parti tahun ini, berbanding hanya 2,500 sebelum ini.
Sementara itu, pemilihan jawatan tertinggi sayap Wanita, Pemuda dan Puteri Umno akan diadakan secara berasingan pada 28 Sept ini, dan Perhimpunan Agung Umno akan diadakan dari 2 hingga 7 Disember ini.
